For those who watched the drifting scene in South East Asia will fondly remember the cheeky car with a cartoon face from a Peanut brand from Thailand, KohKae. In fact the car and driver must not be taken lightly as Dee Koh-Kae, who drives the Nissan Cefiro A31, is an amazing drifter with crazy massive smoke from his Cefiro. A true underdog in Formula Drift Asia events, he finished second in the 2010 edition of Formula Drift Asia in Malaysia. He is one of the top drifting talents from Thailand, which is catching up quickly with Malaysia and Japan in the Asian region.
The smoke monster
D Kohkae is one of the most interesting drifters in this region
However, D Koh-Kae just dropped a massive bombshell to the drifting community in Thailand during M-Storm Drift Competition Thailand Rd.1, when he announced that he will be stepping aside from competitive drifting to focus on his peanut business under the name “Koh-Kae”. As quoted from him “I will stop drifting and It will be my last day because I have business to run full time for the new Koh-Kae Factory. Until everything is set and that will take 1-2 years. But, I promise everybody that I will return with a new Drift Machine that’s better than ever”.
Looks like peanut is serious business to him but we understand his stand hence we wish him best of luck on his business expansion, while leaving the rest of us like myself felt shocked and speechless at the same time. That may explain why we didn’t see him in the recently concluded round 1 of the Formula Drift Asia in Malaysia. Still, our best wishes to him, and really hope we to see him at least by 2014 in drifting events, hopefully with a much bigger and powerful smoke machine.
Peanuts, serious business
