Surprise! UMW Toyota decided to bring in the GT-86, the successor of the well-known AE-86. The 2+2 seater AE-86 is one heck of a car in racing and some say it’s the king of the hill. Unfortunately I have never seen one personally. It’s good to know that we are finally getting its successor here!
According to the preview website by Toyota, it will be named as Toyota 86, and it comes in automatic and manual transmission. Both are mated to a 2.0litre, 4-Cylinder Boxer, 16-Valve DOHC with Intake & Exhaust Variable Valve Timing engine which is capable of producing 200PS and 205Nm of torque. 0-100km/h is 8.2secs and 7.6secs while top speed is 210km/h and 226km/h for automatic and manual transmission respectively.
Below is the estimated price of the Toyota GT-86, which I hope the price will be lower by the time the 86 launches.
For what you are paying, you’ll get Limited Slip Differential (LSD), High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, smart entry & keyless system, Leather with Alcantara® seats, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with VSC SPORT Mode, Traction Control (TRC) and 7 airbags as standard for both transmissions. Something interesting is the availability of ISOFIX mount in the rear seat of a sports car! Every car manufacturer should take note of this!
The launch date is not announced yet but booking for the Toyota 86 is open now!
