The automotive world today is mourning on the passing of  one of the most iconic persons we have. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the creator and designer behind the iconic Porsche 911 sports car, has passed away at the age of 76. He has apparently took his last breath in Salzburg, Austria on the 5th of April 2012.

Ferdinand, the grandson of Porsche’s founder Ferdinand Porsche, was known as the person who penned the iconic Porsche 911 sports car and the car has never lost its essence ever since the car was firstly launched in 1963. He followed a different path as his grandfather and father were engineers, he concentrated on design. He is also the founder of Porsche Design Studio in 1972, the design house behind many Porsche models and many Porsche apparels including watches, clothing, eye wear and many more.

The news came when the new Porsche 911 was voted as World Performance Car of the year by an international panel of automotive journalists beating favorites like Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 and the McLaren MP4-12C. While some may think Porsche is almost the laziest designers in the world as their cars remained to look the same, without doubt Porsche has crafted a great number of true driver’s car for driving purist. His philosophy of good design is a legacy to us that we will honour for a long time. Regardless, he will be missed and may he RIP.
