It was a dramatic event at the world’s most famous endurance race, Le Mans. The drama started in less than an hour in to the 24 hours race when team Audi’s Allan McNish crashed his Audi R18 TDI into a Ferrari 458 Italia, then the barrier.
The two-time Le Mans winner Scottish was going for a gap with a slower Ferrari 458 Italia, unfortunately he crashed into the Ferrari shooting both cars into the barrier. The R18 went airborne and slammed into a tyre wall, with wheels and debris flying towards photographers and marshals at the scene. Fortunately, McNish wasn’t hurt in the terrifying accident and was able to walk away from his wrecked R18.
The race ended on Sunday and Audi won the endurance race for the 10th time in 12 years, through the remaining driving team of Benoit Treluyer, Marcel Fassler and Andre Lotterer. They finished only 14 seconds ahead of Peugeot after completing the grueling 355 laps.
