Autobacs Super GT: Calsonic GTR and ARTA CR-Z reign supremacy!

Share |

The round three of Autobacs Super GT race in Sepang International Circuit saw the dominating form of Calsonic Impul GTR and ARTA CR-Z in their respective GT500 and GT300 categories. Despite both cars qualified on top on their classes, their victory was not a straight forward sprint to the finish, as both these cars faced intense battle from other formidable competitors.

Calsonic GTR wins in a tough and intense battle

The tight first two corners during the start of the race

On the GT500, the Calsonic GTR of Joao Paulo de Oliveira & Tsugio Matsuda, faced intense pressure from the ZENT SC430, only the later spurn off a few laps later which bought relief to the GTR. Last year’s winner, Weider HSV Honda, which qualified on eight, managed to catch up with the Calsonic GTR and overtook the later on lap 18. Chances of Weider to repeat their success in Sepang was faded by due to an unfortunt lengthy pitstop which drops the HSV into no 7th. That bought the Calsonic GTR to retain the lead, followed by DENSO SC430 and Raybrig HSV on third. That remained status quo until the final lap when the Calsonic emerged as winners after 54 laps of intense racing. Last year’s winner Weider ended up a consolidating forth overall, while local favorites Petronas TOMS SC430 only managed to finish a disappointing 11th.

BBQ Time from 2012′s GT500 champion

It was also Joao Paulo de Oliveira’s third victory in Sepang after he was won in the GT500 category in 2007 and 2008.

The Battle of the Hybrids!

On the GT300, it was the battle of the Hybrids as the ARTA CR-Z and Mugen CR-Z duke out on an intense and nail biting dogfight from start to finish. As this race has proven that Hybrids may have a bright future in motor racing, both CR-Z were neck to neck to claim top honors and eventually the ARTA CR-Z of Shinichi Takagi and Takashi Kobayashi defeated the Mugen CR-Z to claim their first victory by a close two seconds. With the Mugen CR-Z won the last race in Fuji, the Hybrid technology has shown maturity and relevance in motor sports. Meanwhile the Subaru BRZ R&D Sports which qualifies third, suffered from a spurn, an mistaken taken advantage by Gainer DIXCEL SLS which eventually finishes on third while the Subaru settled for forth.

May the best CR-Z wins!

Despite the hazy skies and humid conditions, this year’s edition has produced some of the most exciting races in Sepang for many years. The next round will be at Sugo in Japan in a month’s time. With a record of 67,000+ race fans over the weekend, there is no reason not to bring a successful Super GT race in Malaysia for 2014!

New BMW 3 series GT launched in Malaysia

BMW Malaysia has just launched the third variant of the ever popular 3 series, in the form of a Gran Turismo (GT). Think the new 3 series GT as a slightly larger and more spacious version of the sedan version, combined with some silhouette shapes from a coupe and you’ll get the idea. Comes in the 328iGT only for the time being, this is the car for those who desires a big boot at 520 litres and roomy spacious seats for driver and passenger and yet the drivers wants to experience the ultimate driving experience this marque is well known for.

Apart from the trade mark nine moulded black kidney grille that symbolized the Munich marque, key features on the new GT including 18 inch light alloy rims, air breathers, Xenon headlights, and the active rear spoiler, which activates when then car reaches 110km/h and retracts at speed below 70km/h.

Powering the GT is the in-line twin turbo four cylinder 2.0 litre engine capable of producing 245HP with 350Nm of torque. The GT is capable with producing 0-100kmh in 6.1 seconds and similar with it’s Germanic siblings, it is electronically limited to 250 km/h top speed. Four different driving modes can be chosen from ECO PRO, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT + which caters to driver’s needs depending on driving situations. Yet with such performance figures this car will only sip fuel at 6.4 liters per 100km with C02 emissions of 149 grams.

Well there’s no explanation needed for SPORT and SPORT+ mode. As for the ECO PRO it has unique features where apart of adjusting engine mapping to manage fuel consumption efficiently, the system will collaborate with the new Navigation System Professional to monitor the driver’s driving style and routes and will propose the most fuel efficient road and vehicle setup right away, boosting a 20% improvement on fuel consumption. The BM ConnectedDrive is standard for the GT as well.

With on the road price at RM348,800 for the 328iGT trim, in CBU form; and available in in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red, Glacier Silver, Midnight Blue, and Mineral Grey with interior options including Dakota Black with Red highlighted leather upholstery. Buyers who chooses the Alpine White variant has an option for Dakota Coral Red with Black highlighted leather upholstery.

The car is launched in conjunction of BMW’s Ingress Auto new dealership launch of Ingress Auto Puchong, at the township of Puchong, Selangor. With BMW Malaysia target sales of 50 units for the GT variant for 2013, this is infact a applaudable and bold move by BMW Malaysia to introduce niche models, offering more choice for buyers, in which many marques don’t usually approach.

Video: Michael Bay’s Victoria’s Secret video features DMC Aventador

Yes, you’ve read it right; “Victoria’s Secret” and “Michael Bay”. The reason why we feel the need to share this video here is not because of the sexy VS models (partly is) or maybe Transformers in sexy lingeries. It’s because of the ride chosen to be in this “Very Sexy” video campaign by Victoria’s Secret. It’s the DMC Aventador Molto Veloce, and it has now been officially branded as ‘very fast’ and ‘very sexy’.

Tuned by German tuner DMC, this pumped up Aventador can produce 888hp. Hence the name Molto Veloce; means ‘very fast’ in Italian. Feast your eyes on the very fast Aventador and the very sexy VS models, of course.
